Southern Divas of the New South™ Host a Summertime Pig Pickin’

Saturday, June 10th @ 6pm

A pig pickin, also known as “rolling a pig”, pig pull, pig roast or, among the Cajuns of Louisiana, "cochon de lait", plays a significant role in the foodways and culture of the American South. It involves the barbecuing of a whole hog and is a favorite for large group and family gatherings, such as church dinners, family reunions, graduations, weddings, tailgating for football, and even at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Join French-trained Southern Chef Jennifer Hill Booker and James Beard Award-winning cookbook author Cynthia Graubart as they explore what the New South looks like through the eyes of two female chefs.

They will share their modern interpretation of this long-standing method of Southern cooking and celebration.

This menu for the evening will be:

• Pimento Cheese Stuffed Deviled Eggs

• Smoked Suckling Pig with Hot Pepper Vinegar & Bourbon Barbeque Sauce

• Baked Beans

• Creamy Coleslaw

• Sweet Potato Salad

• Pickled Peppers, Onions & Green Tomatoes

• Southern Divas Cake Parade: Triple Chocolate Brownie Cake, Banana Pudding, Coca-Cola Cake, Strawberry Lemon Trifle, Red Velvet Cake

#2

Shop, Cook & Eat Seasonally. In-season produce is fresh, inexpensive, and tasty!

#3

Cook Once & Eat Twice. Cook a double batch of dishes like soups, beans and chili-for those days you don't feel like cooking!
